Terminus of the Great Eastern Railway's branch from Saxmundham. There was only one intermediate stop - at Leiston. That looks like a Coles crane to the right of the siding, with the Railway Hotel far right

In fact the branch is still open beyond Leiston, but short of Aldeburgh. It is for goods only and serves the nuclear power stations at Sizewell. See this image on the Geograph site: www.geograph.org.uk/photo/173233

There is virtually none of this now. The Railway hotel is still there, the rest is under a road/roundabout and a housing estate. The railbed forms a footpath out of Aldeburgh as far as Thorpeness with a few remnants showing. I am interested in the old station but can find little info or pictures.

The fist comment is incorrect in that there were in fact two intermediate stops, namely Leiston and Thorpeness Halt.

Mr Samuelson. Thank you. Halts are not shown on my Pre-grouping Atlas of British railways.
