Kilwinning Railway Station in 1950s

Steam locomotive 42739 pulling a freight train, captured here right between the station sign and the signal box.
Kilwinning railway station was opened in 1840 by Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock and Ayr Railway as an interchange serving traffic from Glasgow, Ayr and Ardrossan.
It is situated on the Ayrshire Coast Line and the four platform station is still serving Kilwinning, Scotland.

Comments:
The locomotive is a Hughes 2-6-0 built for the LMS and classified by British Railways as 6P5F; known to many as a 'Crab'. I assume that the freight is heading towards Ayr; the junction with the Ardrossan line is probably beyond the brake van seen on the extreme left. There was a second Kilwinning Station - Kilwinning East, on a Caledonian Railway branch, which also ran to Ardrossan, but I understand this was closed circa 1930
