Lethenty Railway Station

Single platform / single track station Lethenty, Aberdeenshire, Scotland as it was in 1959 (as info provided). Though Wikipedia mentions that the station closed in 1931...

The station is no more, with the track lifted.

Comments:
Lethenty. Perhaps the line only closed to passengers in 1931. It opened in June 1856 and for some years formed part of the Great North of Scotland Railway 'empire', until the 1923 Grouping. Note how the platform - which still survives - straddles the Lochter burn: see the girder under the crossing gate lamp. And the raised railings to the left of the gate. A leat from this river once powered the nearby Lethenty Mill, which also still survives today, now converted into small business units. I think the mill may have been rail connected and might partly account for the track still being extant in 1959 - that is, if 1959 is the year this shot was taken ..
