Merchant Navy ClassThe name-plate of 35026 Lamport & Holt Line taken at Manchester Victoria 25th June 1966. She had brought the Warwickshire Railway Society's "Aberdonian" tour train from Waterloo and was about to depart to Doncaster to pick up the train the following day. Servicing arrangements I am unaware of. The photo might be handy for scale-model makers. Another 'Good Idea at the Time' photo.

A very good idea. Personally I neglected nameplates and regret it.

It WAS a good idea at the time Bill. If only we had all taken photographs that we didn't think were worth snapping at the time what a collection there would now be, mind you, can't say I'm all that keen on the shade of green - like the apple shade better!!!

The photo was in Black and White Tony! Mind you, the loco was in the correct Brunswick Green as adopted by BR from The GWR! ;-)

Tony R is gonna kill me for this! Tasmania (here) is known as the Apple Isle for it's production and Export of many varieties of Apples. They range in colour from yellow to different shades of red (some variegated). There are none remotely resembling Brunswick Green but one variety which could be called LNER 'Apple Green' is a cooking apple called "Grannie Smith"...........Incidentally, a half-ripe Nectarine has Midland Red one side and LNER green on t'other! Deep red when ripe and good eating.

Yeh, OK Bill, I give in. I really like anything that is driven by steam no matter what its colour. It's just that I was brought up in God's County of Yorkshire and the best 'uns there were apple green and garter blue! Get out a that!

Touche Tony! LOL! Yep, Steam is Steam. Don't mind the Apple Green but don't go much on the blue or yella though. I saw 123 at Cardiff Queen St. in the late fifties, fine loco but I don't think the colour suited it. I've never seen a blue garter.....

Tha's too old fashioned Bill, they wear tights these days!

Yeah, Rite Tony! I think the colour refers to the Ceremonial Garters. How the heck you could be called Knight of the Garter has me some-what bemused. Don't think I could wear it! LOL! I did see one or two blue suspender belts which did raise some steam so I think the comment is appropriate........
