Hi Bill, any chance you can send me an enlargment of the sign on the right? Looks like a piece of advertising and I might be able to determine the place from that...

I think I've been able to find the location of this photo. Searching on the text of the sign on the right (Bleeker & Cool) I've been able to trace it to Rotterdam. Bleeker & Cool were merchants in 'Koloniale Waren' (colonial goods) located at 105 Hang, Rotterdam.

The water you see is called "Het Steiger" in Rotterdam. The houses on the right (with the Bleeker & Cool sign) are located in 't Hang (streetside). All this was destroyed on may 11 1940 during the German bombardment.
