British 4-6-0 steam engine 75072

British 4-6-0 steam locomotive 75072. Originally I thought the album this photo came from was from the early 1950's. However, as this engine only came into service in 1955 I have to revise this date :)
As a novice in the field of trains and engines I am learning all the time....

75072 was one of a batch of standard class 4 engines, 75065-75079, built at swindon between August 1955 and January 1956. They were all allocated to the southern region of british railways.

This locomotive was running on the Somerset and Dorset line in the sixties there are photos of it with the later double chimney on that line on Somerset and Dorset related web pages and in the book "Celebration of the Somerset & Dorset Railway by Alan Hammond. It was was scraped in Ringwood, Hampshire in March 1966. According to the NRM it was fitted with the boiler from 75069 removed in October 1960 and fitted to 75072 in March 1964 this remained with the locomotive until it was cut up. I believe this to be one of the only two steam locomotives that were cut up in Wards's scrap yard in Ringwood.
