Information found on this 4-6-0 Castle Class Great Western steam locomotive:
If this photo was taken before 1954 then this is the Gloucester Regiment. Originally built as St. Donat's Castle, July 1932 in Swindon, it was renamed in April 1954.
It was withdrawn September 1962 and scrapped later at Newport.

To clear up any doubt the image was therefore taken after 1954. The engine was still named The Gloucestershire Regiment 28th, 61st, in 1960. The position of the two lamps above the bufferbeam indicate that this is a parcels train or less likely, a milk, fish or fruit train running with XP rolling stock

Spot on Martin. If that was a fish,fruit or milk train it would be going like the clappers, not standing in a station stinking the place out, fermenting or waiting for cheese to develop! All the above were next in priority to express passenger trains, in some cases taking priority over local stoppers.
