Britannia class 70040 Clive of India

Photo of the steam locomotive 70040 Clive of India at Saxmundham Railway Station. The 4-6-2 Clive of India is a BR Standard Class 7 or Britannia class designed by Robert A. Riddles and built in 1953 at Crewe Works. In total 55 engines of this class were built.
The 70040 served for only 14 years and was disposed of in 1967. Two in this class were more lucky and have been preserved: the 70000 'Britannia' and the 70013 'Oliver Cromwell'.

The station is Saxmundham (station code SAX), a small town is Suffolk, England. The two platform station still exists and is currently served by National Express East Anglia.

Comments:
The main station building is on the east, largely hidden by 'Clive of India'. Here is an earlier view, taken in 1901: www.geograph.org.uk/photo/926665
The signalling has been upgraded and so has the level crossing but the station building remains
