Alnwick railway station in the 1950sPhoto of part of Alnwick train station as it was in the 1950s (specific year not known). This station was opened in 1850 but was closed by the British Railways Board in 1968. It was the terminus of the Alnwick branch line, which diverged from the East Coast Main Line at Alnmouth in Northumberland, England. It looks like it had only two platforms from this picture.

Steam traction was replaced on the line by diesel multiple units on 16th June 1966 along with the closure of the engine shed - the presence of a dmu at the extreme right of the photograph suggests that it was taken about 1967. Buses took over the service to Alnmouth as of 29th January 1968.

The comment above is slightly erronous. The Newcastle trains had all gone over to DMUs prior to 1966 leaving the 3 class K1 locos to soldier on till the last day with Alnmouth Alnwick and coal/freight workings. Last K1s were 62011/21/50
