Ballachulish Railway StationPhoto of the 1950s of the Ballachulish & Glencoe railway station. Used to be a train station on the south shore of Loch Leven at Glencoe in the Scottish Highlands. Note the Jonh Menzies news stand on the left and the Police poster.
This two platform end terminus was build in 1903 by the Callander and Oban Railway which became part of LMS in 1923. In 1948 during nationalisation it became part of the Scottish Region of British Rail. And this station saw its demise in 1966 when it was closed by the British Railway Board (thanks to Dr Beeching).

I remember it as a child - Mary MacKinnon, who ran the tobacco and newsagents from a wooden hut, was known locally as " Mary Hut ". I remember the steam trains that preceeded the deisels. We lived at Glenachulish, which was served by the Ballachulish Ferry station. Happy days.
