Alsager Railway StationPhoto of the Alsager train station (Cheshire, England) as it was in 1957. Alsager is on the Crewe to Derby line.
The two platform railway station was built in 1848 by North Staffordshire Railway. In 1923 it became part of LMS and again in 1948 it passed on to British Rail's London Midland Region during nationalisation.
The line was electrified in 2003 and exists until this day I've seen photos of the building on the left here, not sure about the other one, and even the level-crossing is still there.
Currently it is managed by East Midlands Trains (2009).

The buildings on the right have gone, Marcel. This is Stephen Craven's shot taken in 2009, with a further informative caption, showing the overhead electrification and new signalling: www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1567203

Hi Martin,
Thanks for the info. I had a look at the recent photo, as I always do, and it does look rather different. Not so much because of the missing buildings but mainly due to the cluttered results of the overhead lines and signals.... progress doesn't always improve aesthetics does it? :)

The OHLE, as I think the engineering fraternity refer to it, certainly spoils the aesthetics, but no doubt modern train services are now speedier and more comfortable on the Crewe-Derby line. I have a suspicion that the overhead line equipment on the continent is less intrusive. Other, more travelled individuals may advise!

Swedish overhead lines can be compared, for example, by looking at picture #8121 on the Librapix "Trains" site.
The German system can likewise be seen at picture #7513 on that site.
