Alton Railway Station 1950s

Photo of the Alton Railway Station, Hampshire (England) as it was in the 1950s. This three platform station was opened in 1865 by London and South Western Railway. There was another station here before this one but that was closed when this one was opened and on that site is now the car park for this station.
In 1923 it became part of Southern Railway, in 1948 it became part of the Southern Region of British Rail. Nowadays it is managed by South West Trains (2009).

A view from the 1980s - little changed. Now trains from London Waterloo terminate here and the Mid Hants railway runs to Alresford from the platform on the extreme right:
