Backney Halt Railway Station 1950s

Photo of the wooden platform and shelter of Backney Halt Railway Station as it was in the 1950s. Backney Halt was a station in Hereford and Worcester, England.
The station was opened in 1933 by Great Western Railway and became part of the Western Region of British Rail in 1948 (when the railways in the the UK were nationalised. Unfortunately this station was closed in 1962.

Very stylish roof on the shelter!

The 'pagoda' style shelter was a typical feature of Great Western halts. Here the wooden platform appears to have suffered a collapse in front of it. Health and Safety would have something to say about that today! And are the lamps missing from the lamp posts? Perhaps the halt has closed recently?

As a regular traveller from this platform in the early 60's I think this was taken in 1962 shortly after it was closed - the damage to the front of the platform was the reason for its closure. Only the right hand tilley lamp was ever wound up and used and its absence is a clue that the platform was disused
