Barnstaple Victoria Road Railway Station

Photo of the single platform Barnstaple Victoria Road train station as it was in 1958.

Barnstaple Victoria Road railway station (Devon) was the terminus of the Devon and Somerset Railway line. The station was opened in 1873 upon the extension of the Devon and Somerset rail line.
It used to be a busy station with all the trains operating on this line calling at Barnstaple Victoria Road.
However, the station was closed to passengers in 1960 when traffic to Barnstaple was concentrated on the former L&SWR line from Exeter. The good service was maintained but eventually this was terminated too in 1970.

All the station buildings have been demolished but the goods shed seems to have survived and has an 'exotic' use nowadays: as a church! Would love to see a photo of that :)
