Bodiam Railway Station in 1956

Bodiam train station is situated in Sussex, England. The single platform station opened as late as 1900 partly for the local industry which grew hops for Guiness.
Due to increased competition from road haulage and decreasing passenger numbers the station was closed in 1954.

Not all doom and gloom though as it was purchased by the (now) Kent and East Sussex Railway and was re-opened in 2000 as their southern terminus of the KESR heritage railway.

Comments:
Bodiam. The waggon on the left of shot indicates the line was still being used by freight in 1956 and the rails look used, not rusting. The Wikipedia entry states that freight and specials worked over the route until 1961. By 1962 the station looked rather overgrown - see Ben Brooksbank's image on Geograph: www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1839140
